Michael brings an experienced eye and analytic approach to his work with clients, using skilled inquiry and information-gathering to help organizations craft sound strategies and advance their mission. Michael has worked with Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, ACLU, and Rogue River Watershed Council to accelerate strategic action, develop business plans, and lay the groundwork for effective partnerships.
Michael's consulting practice is deeply rooted in fully understanding the complexities that nonprofits and foundations face and in working collaboratively to address both operational and strategic needs. Prior to joining La Piana Consulting, Michael developed grantee due diligence procedures in his role as Senior Financial Analyst at the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation. He also spent years in the Community Development Financial Institution industry as both a lender and trainer with Nonprofits Assistance Fund in Minneapolis. Michael holds an MPP from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs and an undergraduate degree in Sociology, Spanish, and Justice and Peace Studies from the University of Saint Thomas.
