Mike works with nonprofit leaders and their organizations to facilitate positive change. The author of an influential book on strategic planning, he is a leader in the field and brings years of experience in strategy, board development, and all facets of nonprofit management. Mike’s consulting practice is focused on supporting people in working together better to achieve their full potential and do great work. He has led individual and team consulting engagements with organizations in a variety of fields including advocacy, economic development, health and social services, youth development, and the arts. Past clients include Planned Parenthood of America, Youth Leadership Institute, Lambda Legal, and the Ms. Foundation.
Mike has led consulting teams, publishes frequently on social sector issues, and speaks regularly at conferences. Prior to joining La Piana Consulting, Mike was principal of his own consultancy, a director at CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, and executive director of a community organizing nonprofit. He has been a member of the Haas, Jr. Fund's Flexible Leadership Awards program since 2006. Mike has an MBA from the Yale School of Management and an undergraduate degree in economics from Colgate University.
