Our publisher Fieldstone Alliance announced that The Nonprofit Strategy Revolution: Real-Time Strategic Planning in a Rapid-Response World, has nearly sold out and needs to be reprinted. The book’s first six months have been a hit.

Not only is it selling, but requests for speaking engagements have come in from all over the country.

In October we will be speaking on strategic planning at events sponsored by Mid-Atlantic Network for Youth and Families, BoardSource , and United Way in Houston (now postponed to November, courtesy of Hurricane Ike).

If you live in any of these locations, please check out the links and consider attending one of these events.

Old Friends

Thirty years ago I was a doctoral student in comparative literature at Berkeley and a friend, whom I thought to be the smartest person in our department, told me she was dropping out of the program to marry her boyfriend, a Brit who was finishing his M.A. in computer science and wanted to return home to become a teacher.

Mary and I attended the wedding at City Hall, the reception at their crowded apartment on University Avenue, and then bid them farewell.

A year later, after our own wedding, we honeymooned on the floor of their East London tower block apartment. Over the years we have kept in touch as their four children and our two were born and grew. Occasionally one of us journeyed across the Atlantic and we enjoyed a brief visit.

This summer we received just such a visit as Kathy and Martin made a weak-dollar tour of the U.S. to celebrate their thirtieth anniversary. Their youngest and our oldest were both about to leave for college, so it was a great time for taking stock of our lives, lived apart but then, not really.
