Evaluation of the Strategic Solutions Project

Soon after the Strategic Solutions initiative began in 1998, the project's Advisory Board retained The Conservation Company to evaluate our progress in broadening the nonprofit sector’s perception, understanding, and use of strategic restructuring.  The evaluation was a dynamic force in the evolution of the initiative, providing ongoing analysis that informed program design and helped participants take corrective action as the work developed.

In May 2002, Paul Connolly and Peter York, who led The Conservations Company’s evaluation team, published Pulling Together: Strengthening the Nonprofit Sector Through Strategic Restructuring, a monograph describing some of the early findings from the evaluation.  Many of these findings focus on the need and demand for information about strategic restructuring and the amount of research on the subject.  The report also contains a summary of Strategic Solutions’ primary focus areas over time, a copy of the Partnership Matrix, and a visual representation of Strategic Solutions’ logic model (i.e., assumptions about project inputs, strategies, and outcomes).
