Onuka helps organizations solve the problems that stand between them and their ability to effectively achieve their mission. He is an insightful thought partner and skilled researcher, with experience in strategy, governance, program development, and outcomes assessment.
"One thing that attracted me to consulting was the opportunity to have a broader impact. Instead of working deep on the issue areas of one organization, I get to assist a wide variety of nonprofits working on many important issues."
Onuka is an acute listener and observer, with an ability to quickly home in on critical issues and levers for change. His experience with complex and multidimensional change management informs his consulting work with a variety of clients. He has consulted to organizations including the ACLU of Northern California, United Way Worldwide, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the Center for Popular Democracy, and Working Families.
"I enjoy having the outsider perspective that can help a client to see what may not be immediately apparent and then to create an effective strategy to address it."
Onuka's nonprofit and consulting background has equipped him to take on a variety of challenges, from strategy development and program design, to data analysis, to strategic partnerships and change management. Prior to joining La Piana in 2017, he was VP of program at College Summit, where he led the transition from a legacy programmatic model and organizational structure to an agile, streamlined program and infrastructure. Onuka is a past board president and current board member and foundation trustee for Delta Sigma Pi, an international professional business fraternity for men and women. Onuka has an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and an undergraduate degree in business administration and Spanish from Truman State University. He is also a Pahara Institute NextGen Fellow.
Onuka is available as a speaker on issues related to board governance and change management.
